Ambleside Park is a spacious public park reputed to be West Vancouver’s most famous! It has many attractions for the more active of visitors to Vancouver including a beach, trails, skateboard park, pith and putt and more.
Ambleside Park is in West Vancouver, across the Burrard Inlet from downtown. It’s only a short drive from downtown by going through Stanley Park and across the Lions Gate Bridge, it should only take ten minutes.
Ambleside Park was officially designated as a park in 1918 and has been a popular place with both visitors and residents ever since. There are 59 acres of parkland here, including a 600 meter long sandy beach and a 1.2km (0.75 miles) shoreline Seawalk.
There’s a lot to keep you occupied at Ambleside Park, or if you prefer to relax you can do that too! There are some wonderful views from here of Stanley Park, the Lions Gate Bridge and downtown Vancouver, and you can sit and watch the ships come and go.
This is an 18 hole, par 3, pitch and putt course which is situated on Ambleside Waterfront. The course is suitable for all players and is open spring and summer from March 1 to October 31 from 9am to dusk and there are reasonable fees for all players.
If you’re visiting in the summer, Vancouver has many great beaches to offer you and the beach here at Ambleside Park is no exception. During the summer (usually between June to Sept 1) the beach is manned by a lifeguard, so is a safe place to go swimming too. Also during the summer, you can have extra fun on the beach as there are volleyball nets!
The main trail in Ambleside Park is the Seawalk, which goes for 1.2km (0.75 miles). There are other smaller trails around the park including one around the duck pond. Whilst at the duck pond, look out for the rare Green Heron in the spring and summer. This is the only known nesting site on Vancouver’s North Shore.
Ambleside Park is a lovely place to come and enjoy a picnic. You can bring your own food and make use of the many picnic tables, or buy something from the concession booth. There are also barbeques for those who want to cook up a feast, and with washrooms and a children’s playground in the park as well you could stay all day!
There’s so much you can do here at Ambleside Park. If the above hasn’t already taken your fancy, how about enjoying the 3 tennis courts, the skateboard park, the fitness circuit, 3 basketball courts, fields and 2 baseball diamonds?!
