Minter Gardens is in the Chilliwack area of Greater Vancouver and is approximately 90 minutes drive east of Downtown Vancouver along Highway 1. It’s just a couple of minutes off the Highway when you Exit at # 135.
You can get to the Minter Gardens by Transit, though it will take a while and will cost more than most regular journeys within the Vancouver area. Perhaps you could combine a visit to the Minter Gardens with a journey further afield.
Minter Gardens first opened in 1980 and since this time has become a renowned and beautiful garden which is open seasonally. There are 32 acres here, all situated at the foot of Mount Cheam and arranged in 11 themed show gardens including a Japanese one and an Alpine one. New for 2008 is the Children’s Garden.
In addition to the gardens there are two restaurants and a gift and plant shop for visitors to enjoy. If you don’t see the plants you want to buy here though, you can journey a little way up the road to the Country Garden Store which is also owned and managed by the Minter family. This is an 18 acre site with nursery and garden center as well as a great nature preserve with a few visitor attractions of its own including a seasonal garden train, miniature village and suspension bridge.
